Adoption Process & Policies
Thanks for your interest in adopting an English Springer Spaniel. It is very important that we find the correct home for every rescued English Springer Spaniel in our care.
Step 1
Filling out an Adoption Application
The adoption process is started when you fill out an adoption application. This completed questionnaire will help us pick the very best dog for you, your family and your lifestyle. Completing this questionnaire in the best detail you can provide will help us determine the particulars you are looking for in a dog. When describing the type of dog that you would prefer, try to think in terms of temperament rather than color, sex or age. We will then be able to update you on dogs in your area as they become available. Due to the volume of applications we receive, a $5.00 donation is required before filling out an application, so our volunteers hours are spent with serious applicants. All homes who adopt through NEESSR will be asked for a donation to help us continue our assistance to those Springers who are abandoned, abused and unwanted. The application fee will be deducted from the Adoption Fee.
Step 2
I'm Approved!
The adoption coordinator for your area will inform you when you have been
approved for adoption after a phone interview with you. You will work with this person in finding the right match
for you.
Step 3
Available Dogs
Available dogs are listed on our website. Your adoption coordinator will contact you when there is a dog that available that we feel would be
a good fit for you. Likewise, if you see a dog listed that you would like more
information about, please let your adoption coordinator know. Those
applicants which are proactive in checking the website and maintaining
communication with their adoption coordinators have the best success in finding
the perfect dog for their family.
Please be advised that there is often a 6 months - 1 year wait for a young Springer.
Older dogs are available to be placed more quickly
and will love you even more for giving them their forever home.
Step 3
I found a Springer!
When you find a potential match, we will set up a meeting for you to meet the
dog. If the dog is located a distance from you, you will need to be willing to
travel to the dog's current residence. We will arrange for you to talk
with the foster home and provide pictures of the dog, if available. If all
concerned feel that the dog and family are a good match, the adoption is
arranged.
Step 4
Adoption
If all concerned feel that the dog and family are a good match, the adoption is arranged. Adopters are required to sign an adoption contract with NEESSR, Inc to abide by and must be willing to keep dogs vaccinated and in good health after adoption. If for some reason the adoption doesn't work out or you are unable to keep your Springer, New England English Springer Spaniel expects the dog to be returned to our rescue.
Step 5
Donations
Rescue groups are funded by generous donations. All of the folks involved are
volunteers who donate their time, money and hearts to this effort. To help us
provide medical care for all of our rescued Springers, we ask that the adopting
family give a tax-deductible donation in the following amount:
Under 6 month..................$350
Under 2
years...................$300
2+ years to 10 years........$250
10+ years...........................$150
Seniors for Seniors! We will waive the adoption fee if a Senior (65 and up)
adopts a Senior (10 and up).
Step 6
Post Adoption Support & Follow Up
NEESSR, Inc is available for support and advice after adoptions and to assist with any questions during the transition period. Educating adopters about the breed is crucial to ensuring a happy, life-long relationship between dog and owner. It is our goal for your home to be s final destination in the NEESSR adoption process. By understanding more about Springers and by going through a thorough adoption process, this goal can truly be realized. NEESSR, Inc reserves the right to contact you & your veterinarian to make sure adopted dogs are vaccinated, healthy and well adjusted. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We will follow up after the adoption to make sure that everything is going well. We want to make sure that the adoption is working out for you and for your new Springer. And remember, we always love to hear about how your adopted Springer is doing, and pictures are always welcome!
Due to the high energy level of Springers, we DO NOT adopt to families with children under 5 years old.
Adoptions to families with children between 5 -10 years will be made on a case-by-case basis.
We DO NOT adopt dogs to families outside of MA, RI, CT, NH, ME, VT & NY
NEESSR, Inc DOES NOT ship dogs. You must be willing to make arrangements for travel to visit with a potential match.
All dogs in an adopter's home must be spayed or neutered.
NEESSR, Inc volunteers reserve the right to refuse any applicant who is not deemed fit for an English Springer Spaniel in our care.
